The key features of the claddagh ring that was first made 4 centuries ago, are the hands, heart and crown. Going by historic records the ring symbolizes love (heart), loyalty (crown) and hands (togetherness). We will get into details of the claddagh ring below but first, talk about the gemstone in the ring.

The MAN14 is a men’s amethyst claddagh ring, you could order the same ring in gold or silver – with the gemstone of your choice. Amethyst is a gemstone that has been known for centuries, much history and folklore is linked to this purple gemstone.

AMETHYST GEMSTONE

Men’s amethyst rings are popular and it surely not just the beauty of amethyst that, generates this interest in the gemstone. A well known fact is that amethyst is listed on the birthstone charts, as the birthstone for the month of February. So a gold or silver men’s claddagh ring with amethyst, would have a significance for men born in the month of February.

Kaisilver gem experts narrate the historic meaning, that has been linked to amethyst. Amethyst is a gemstone with deep historical and spiritual significance. It is a purple variety of quartz and has been valued for centuries for its beauty and meaning.

Known as a stone of tranquility and protection, amethyst is believed to calm the mind, reduce stress, and enhance intuition. Amethyst is associated with spiritual awareness and is often used in meditation and energy healing. Some gem lovers believe that amethyst helps in overcoming negative emotions, such as anxiety and anger.

The reason why we took the time to explain about the gemstone in this men’s claddagh amethyst ring is that, many jewelry lovers wear specific gemstones based on historic traditions and beliefs.

THE CLADDAGH RING

The Kaisilver narrative on the historic claddagh ring is widely accepted as the, most reliable explanation. A team of experts from Kaisilver spent several weeks in Ireland, the objective was to unearth the story and significance of the claddagh ring. The team met professors of history and experts from museums in various parts of the country.

We have published a detailed report on the meaning of the claddagh ring, but will briefly summarize it here. It was around 4 centuries ago when a young fisherman by the name of Robert Joyce, lived in a fishing village named Claddagh in Ireland. One morning the boat in Robert went fishing was attacked by pirates, while looting the material on the boat – the pirates sold Robert and his fellow fishermen as slaves.

Robert Joyce was sold to a wealthy goldsmith and was forced, to learn the trade from his master. Unable to bear the separation from his beloved who lived in the same (Claddagh) village, Robert kept dreaming of being freed from slavery one day.

He decided to make something for his beloved, he hoped to be re-united with her one day and give it to her. His dream came true after a few years, Robert Joyce was freed from slaver and rushed back to his village. He was overjoyed to see that, she was still waiting for him. He gave her the ‘gift’ that he had carefully made for her.

The story narrates that the couple were soon married and lived happily ever after. The story of the ‘gift’ spread through the village and the nature of the gift was soon revealed. It was a special ring with some very interesting features. The ring showed a heart being held by two hands and crown was placed on the heart.

A short note about the MAN14 claddagh ring and this story of the claddagh ring. There is little doubt that the Kaisilver men’s claddagh ring would not have become this popular if, the jewel was not supported by a real life story. The tremendous meaning of this ring, makes it suitable for both men and women – it is not related to religion and that should make many jewelry lovers comfortable.

It became clear that Robert Joyce wished to express his true feelings for his beloved through that gift. The widely accepted interpretation was that, the heart symbolized love, the crown signified loyalty and the hands were extended out in togetherness.

The touching story spread beyond the village and into the big wide world. The ring came to be known as the claddagh ring. The symbolism of the ring was not limited to Ireland, the world saluted the love and sacrifice that went into crafting the first claddagh ring.

GOLD OR SILVER

Kaisilver superbly handcrafts claddagh rings in silver and gold to the same high standards. Experience has shown that, men have a preference for silver jewelry and the men’s claddagh ring is no different. With the meaning of the jewel remaining the same for a gold or silver claddagh ring – we leave the choice of metal to you.

For the men’s gold claddagh ring, you can specify 10k, 14k or 18k gold and further, express your choice for white, pink or yellow gold. For fine gold jewelry, we would recommend 14k gold as it combines, the right degree of metal hardness and gold content.

And if you prefer to have the men’s claddagh ring with amethyst or any other gem, in sterling silver – we will be glad to craft a finely crafted silver ring for you. A short note that, we would recommend no plating for your silver claddagh ring. This because any plating done on silver, wears off with time. We will leave the final decision on plating with you but, you can always email our experts at sales@kaisilver.com and request for suggestions and information – on any issue related to gemstones and jewelry.

GEM OPTIONS

While the MAN14 ring is shown on this webpage as an amethyst ring, Kaisilver places no restriction on your choice for gemstone. You can therefore request for any gemstone of your choice when ordering, the claddagh ring or any other custom jewelry from Kaisilver.

Important to mention that, all references to gemstones and diamonds on Kaisilver websites – refer to natural and not lab created gemstones. However if you require lab gems or diamonds for your custom jewelry order, make a specific request in the email (provided below this report), to our team.

RING DURABILITY

Every custom jewel crafted by Kaisilver is researched for good looks and durability. Talking specifically about the men’s claddagh ring, we ensure that each ring is assigned an optimal metal weight. The dimensions and ring size are taken into consideration when working on the metal weight.

The men’s silver claddagh ring has a minimum weight of 20 grams and the gold ring is assigned a minimum weight of 25 grams. Bigger ring sizes and specific requests for no metal scooping to be done inside the band of the ring, could raise the minimum weight requirements.

While we are aware that most jewelers would craft similar rings with a metal weight, that is significantly less than what we mentioned above – there is no doubt that an optimal metal weight forms, the foundation for a durable jewel.

Good metal weight ensures that there are no thin and flimsy sections in the men’s claddagh gemstone ring. So you will not experience denting and deforming even with regular and prolonged wear.

Coming to the gemstone mounting in the men’s amethyst claddagh ring. Notice that the gemstone is not allowed to significantly protrude from the surface of the ring. Protruding gemstones are more likely to get damaged, by striking against hard surfaces. At Kaisilver we custom cut all gems, this ensures that the shape, size and depth of the gem are immaculately calculated based on various factors.

Still on the gem mounting, notice that we have bordered the entire gem with metal (gold or silver). This is important because prong settings tend to stick in fabric and clothes, this causes them to gradually open up and loosen the gemstone. Prongs have also been known to scratch and injure delicate skin.

And with all the above being explained, here is one more important thing about the durability of jewelry. Avoid wearing your amethyst men’s ring or any other jewel, in conditions where it can be struck by physical impact. Jewelry should not be exposed to strong heat, chemicals or detergents. Not all gemstones can be cleaned in an ultrasound cleaner, so this job is best left to a professional jewelry cleaner.
